Governor Applauds Port Orford Marine Economic Recovery Plan
Governor Kulongoski has officially endorsed Port Orford's Marine Economic Recovery Plan. It is important to note that while we have the support of Governor
Kulongoski, we have to apply for the competitive grants just like
anyone else and work extremely hard to make this a success. POORT is
excited to continue working -- now with the support of the Governor.

Whale Painting at Battle Rock
The Surfrider Foundation with the support of the Port Orford Ocean Resource Team brought Portland-based marketing firm BPN, Inc. to Port Orford to complete a whale painting on the Battle Rock stormdrain. The purpose of the painting is to create a visual connection between stormwater and the ocean - its ultimate destination.
Friday, June 12 was the perfect day for painting - warm and sunny with a nice
breeze. The painting was finished up around 3:00 pm and the
perfect weather made the paint dry very quickly. The painting team had
plenty of people stopping to talk to them and Mayor Auburn was so
impressed he came down twice! Thank you to our painting team and their
sidekick, Riley the dog!
On Saturday, we had a BBQ to celebrate the whale. If visitors were willing to listen to a
quick spiel about surface water runoff, they were rewarded with locally
caught fresh fish, bratts and hotdogs! The BBQ ran from 11:00 am to
1:00 pm and we served at least 30 people. A big thanks to the Eagle III
crew who caught the halibut and deep water red and to Aaron Longton for
the highly coveted salmon! Thank you to our cooks for feeding our
hungry visitors (Charlie with the dogs and bratts and Darrell with the
fish)!
